Who is the Holy Spirit?
St. Basil taught that the Holy Spirit is not a thing and not just “God’s power.”
👉 The Holy Spirit is God.
Just like the Father is God and Jesus is God.
⸻
How did Basil know the Holy Spirit is God?
Basil noticed how Christians pray.
We say:
“Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.”
Basil said:
• We only worship God
• We worship the Holy Spirit
• So the Holy Spirit must be God
That’s it. Simple and strong.
⸻
What does the Holy Spirit do?
Basil taught that the Holy Spirit:
• Helps us become holy
• Lives inside people who love God
• Gives us strength to do good
• Helps us understand God
• Brings peace into our hearts
Only God can do these things — so again, the Spirit must be God.
⸻
How does the Holy Spirit help us know God?
Basil used an example:
Just like:
• Your eyes need light to see
• Your soul needs the Holy Spirit to know God
Without light, eyes can’t see.
Without the Spirit, hearts can’t really know God.
⸻
Is the Holy Spirit smaller than the Father or Jesus?
Basil said NO.
The Holy Spirit is:
• Not a helper of God
• Not “almost God”
He is fully God, working together with the Father and the Son.
⸻
Where is the Holy Spirit now?
Basil said the Holy Spirit:
• Lives in God’s people
• Is close to us
• Helps us pray
• Makes us kind, brave, and loving
God is not far away — He is with us.
⸻
One-sentence takeaway:
The Holy Spirit is God, we pray to Him, He lives in us, and He helps us love and know God.
